共计三点。1、世界奇迹 ;2、幻想某种规模巨典范 ;3、亚洲文明剪影。雨果在《就英法联军远征中国给巴特勒上尉的信》中评价过圆明园,原文如下:在世界的某个角落,有一个世界奇迹,这个奇迹叫圆明园。艺术有两种起源,一是理想,理想产生欧洲艺术;一是幻想,幻想产生东方艺术。圆明园在幻想艺术中的地位,和帕台农神庙在理想艺术中的地位相同。这便是一个几乎是超人民族的想象力所能产生的成就。这不是一件稀有的、独一无二的作品,如同帕台农神庙那样;如果幻想能有典范的话,这是幻想的某种规模巨大的典范。
这是因为
1、圆明园,体现了中国古代建筑艺术的精华,是当时世界上最出色的一座大型园林,而且在世界园林建造史上占有重要的地位,其盛名传欧洲,被誉为万园之园,法国大文豪雨果于1869年对圆明园有这样的评价:”请您想象有一座无言,形容的建筑某种恍若月宫的建筑,这就是圆明园等等,人们常说希腊有脓帕特农神庙,埃及有金字塔罗马,有斗兽场,巴黎有圣母院,而东方有圆明园。”
2、圆明园建筑宏伟而有特色,它继承了中国几千年的优秀建筑传统,既有宫廷建筑的雍容富贵,又有江南乡水乡的园林建筑的委婉多姿,同时,又汲取了欧洲园林的建筑形式,把不同风格的园林建筑融为一体,整体布局上使人感到和谐完美。
3、圆明园收藏,收藏着最珍贵的历史文物,上自先秦时代的青铜礼记下至唐宋元明清历代的名人书画和各种奇珍异宝,所以它又是当时世界上最大的博物馆和艺术馆。
圆明园本身有着无数无与伦比的价值,园内更是收藏无数的文化瑰宝,圆明园是古典,园林建筑艺术的集成者,而并且融合了中西风格,圆明园的毁灭不仅是一个园林的毁灭,更是一个历代思想艺术结晶的毁灭,而这些都是一旦毁灭,就再也无法复原的东西,所以说”圆明园的毁灭是中国史上不可估量的损失,也是世界文化史上不可估量的损失”
1、“和巴特农神庙不一样,这不是一件稀有的、独一无二的作品;这是幻想的某种规模巨大的典范,如果幻想能有一个典范的话”一句如何理解?
这句话将圆明园与巴特农神庙加以比较,指出圆明园的艺术价值比巴特农神庙要高。作者认为,作为艺术来源之一的幻想如果有一个标准的话,那么这个标准就是圆明园。在这句话中,作者高度评价了圆明园的艺术成就。
2、“从前对巴特农神庙怎么干,现在对圆明园也怎么干,只是更彻底,更漂亮,以至于荡然无存。……丰功伟绩!收获巨大!两个胜利者,……”两句中“漂亮”、“丰功伟绩”、“收获巨大”、“文明”、“野蛮”等词语该如何理解?
巴特勒上尉恬不知耻地认为,这次远征是体面的,出色的,光荣的,他们期待的是,雨果对英法的这个胜利给予盛大赞誉。雨果在愤激之下,用反语来形容强盗心理,讽刺强盗心理。像“漂亮”、“丰功伟绩”、“收获巨大”、“文明”、“野蛮”等等反语正是强盗的口吻,有辛辣的讽刺意味。
最有名的名人对圆明园的评价应该是法国伟大的现实主义作家雨果(代表作《悲惨世界》),在巴特雷上尉的一封信中所评价的:

先生,你征求我对远征中国的看法。你认为这次远征行动干得体面而漂亮。你如此重视我的想法,真是太客气了。在你看来,这次在维多利亚女王和拿破仑皇帝旗号下进行的远征中国的行动是法兰西和英格兰共享之荣耀。你希望知道我认为可在多大程度上对英法的这一胜利表示赞同。
既然你想知道,那么下面就是我的看法:在地球上某个地方,曾经有一个世界奇迹,它的名字叫圆明园。艺术有两个原则:理念和梦幻。理念产生了西方艺术,梦幻产生了东方艺术。如同帕特农神殿是理念艺术的代表一样,圆明园是梦幻艺术的代表。

再加上花园、水池及水雾弥漫的喷泉、悠闲信步的天鹅、白鹳和孔雀。一言以蔽之:这是一个以宫殿、庙宇形式表现出的充满人类神奇幻想的、夺目耀眼的宝洞。这就是圆明园。它是靠两代人的长期辛劳才问世的。这座宛如城市、跨世纪的建筑是为谁而建?是为世界人民。
因为历史的结晶是属于全人类的。世界上的艺术家、诗人、哲学家都知道有个圆明园,伏尔泰现在还提起它。人们常说,希腊有帕特农神殿,埃及有金字塔,罗马有竞技场,巴黎有巴黎圣母院,东方有圆明园。尽管有人不曾见过它,但都梦想着它。
这是一个震撼人心的、尚不被外人熟知的杰作,就像在黄昏中,从欧洲文明的地平线上看到的遥远的亚洲文明的倩影。
这个奇迹现已不复存在。
